Spinal Decompression

San Diego Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression is a non-surgical and drug-free answer for disc related conditions of the lumbar or cervical spine. Dr. Brian Austin uses spinal decompression to treat patients suffering from back pain, neck pain, sciatica, bulging and herniated discs, degenerative disk disease, posterior facet syndrome and injured or diseased spinal nerve roots. Spinal decompression works by stretching the spine, reducing pressure between the discs and realigns the spine.

We provide Spinal Decompression to treat various painful and debilitating spinal conditions and injuries, such as Back Pain, Neck Pain, Herniated Disc, injured spinal nerve roots and more.

How Spinal Decompression Works

Both traction and decompression therapy are applied with the goals of relieving pain and promoting an optimal healing environment for bulging, degenerating, or herniated discs.

Create a negative intradiscal pressure to promote retraction or re-positioning of the herniated or bulging disc material.
Create a lower pressure in the disc that will cause an influx of healing nutrients and other substances into the disc.

Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical procedure that effectively treats disabling pain in the lower back, neck, radiating arms & legs, as well as headaches. Decompression Therapy is a highly successful treatment for patients suffering from bulging, herniated, degenerative, or ruptured discs, as well as sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, and many failed back surgery cases. It does this by reducing the pressure on spinal discs and facet joints through unloading created by distraction and positioning.

Spinal Decompression Session

During a Spinal Decompression treatment session, you may be fitted with a harness around your waste. You will be asked to either lie face down or face up on a chiropractic table. Dr. Austin will customize your chiropractic treatment to suit your specific health needs. Each Spinal Decompression treatment session may last 30-45 minutes. Depending on your unique condition, you may be required to have a series of chiropractic sessions over a span of several weeks.
Sessions may include additional treatment modalities, such as electric stimulation, ultrasound, and cold and/or heat therapy applied during or after the procedure.

Recommendations may also include drinking up to a half-gallon of water per day, rest, utilizing nutritional supplements, and/or performing exercises at home to improve strength and mobility.

What kind of results can I expect?

Many patients with lower back syndromes may experience pain relief as early as the third treatment session. Comparison of pre-treatment MRI´s with post-treatment MRI´s has shown a 50% reduction in the size and extent of herniation. In clinical studies, 86% of patients reported relief of back pain with our system. Within the past five years, some private practice clinicians have reported success rates as high as 90%.
